STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - William "Buddy" White, 89, of Tottenville, who took pride in tending to his house, died yesterday in Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills.
Born in Colerain, N.C., he moved to Staten Island in 1952. He worked at the former U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Clifton for many years and retired in 1980.
Mr. White served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, during World War II.
He was a member of St. Philip's Baptist Church, Port Richmond.
His wife of 62 years, Jessie White, said he enjoyed any activity that involved using his hands. He liked to paint the house and work in his vegetable garden.
Also surviving are his brothers, Cecil and Melvin, and his sisters, Geneva Willams and Caterine Harrell, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will be in North Carolina.
