CBS Sports field manager on Super Bowl and other major events, usher at Tottenville Catholic church, 85
William (Pa) M. Naeder, 85, a retired field technical manager at CBS Sports, veteran and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in his home, after a short illness, with his family by his side.
Mr. Naeder was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived on Staten Island, N.Y., for his entire life. He served as a staff sergeant in the Army during the Korean War.
Upon returning to civilian life, he worked in the Sanitation Department of New York before beginning his career at CBS. He held several positions during his 40 years there, retiring as field technical manager at CBS Sports. He managed many events such as the Super Bowl and golf tournaments, including the Masters and the US Open Tennis Tournament.
Mr. Naeder, along with his wife of 62 years, Joan, enjoyed traveling with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time on his boat The Buppas, which was a pet name for his grandchildren, as well as many other activities, including gardening, bowling and fishing. He was an ardent Mets and Giants fan and enjoyed Coca Cola.
Mr. Naeder was an active parishioner at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Tottenville, serving as an usher for 60 years.
Surviving, along with his wife, Joan, are his sons, Michael, wife Janet, and William Jr., wife Kathleen; his daughter, Joan, husband Richard Fetzer; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours are on Wednesday, April 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, 7447 Amboy Rd. Tottenville, Staten Island. A Mass will be held on Friday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Church.
