Walter Paul Fitzpatrick Jr., 84, passed away on May 14, 2018, in Stamford, N.Y., due to natural causes
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Brooklyn from 1933 to 1955, Staten Island from 1955 to 1984, and then Stamford, N.Y., from 1984 to present.
An Army veteran, Walter was also a New York City firefighter, retiring in 1977. He graduated from John Jay High School in Brooklyn, attended Brooklyn College (CUNY), and received an associate's degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member and past president of Jefferson Senior Club.
An accomplished Western Style horseman, he was the men's riding champion in the late 1950s. He was an avid gardner, fisherman, and enjoyed carpentry.
Walter was predeceased by his stepson, the late John Rostawanik. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary; his son, Walter P. Fitzpatrick III; his daughters, Debra Curran, Christine Rojack; stepsons, Robert, Steven Rostawanik; brother, Robert; sisters, Joan Langton, Dorothy McSherry; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral home service is at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home on Friday at 11 a.m. Interment is in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
