Vernelle Curry of Staten Island went home on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at the age of 89.
Vernelle was born on April 30, 1933 in Richmond, Virginia to Joseph and Grace Bates. After graduating high school, she moved to New York City and landed a job at Emerson Radio in Jersey City where she met Thomas Curry. Vernelle and Thomas dated for more than ten years and married on July 9, 1967. After their wedding, they moved to Staten Island and had two beautiful daughters, Tanya Michelle in 1968 and Rachellé Saleta in 1971. Vernelle and her family moved to Peabody, MA and resided there for the next 20 years. They returned to live in Staten Island in 1990, where she remained until her death.
Vernelle was a devout Christian and a deaconess of the Staten Island Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Vernelle lived a full life and enjoyed her time with family and friends.
Vernelle is predeceased in death by her parents, nine siblings, and daughter, Rachellé. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; her daughter, Tanya and her husband Eric Hoffman; her grandchildren, Kyle, Taylor and Adrian; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 9am at Staten Island Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Interment to follow at Moravian Cemetery.
