Umberto (Bert) Tesoriero July 10, 1932 - October 28, 2022
Umberto (Bert) Tesoriero, a Tottenville resident passed away peacefully Friday morning, October 28 at Eger's Health Care Center. Born on July 10, 1932, he was 90 years old. Umberto was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean after 68 years of marriage. Bert was a devoted father to his four children Angela Besignano (Robert), Rosalie Carbonaro (Alfredo), Diana Mauro (Peter), and Dominick Tesoriero (Christine). He was also a proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Born and raised in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn, Bert would begin his lifelong career in the produce business. As a teenager, he sold fruit off a pushcart to help support his family. He later went on to serve in the Korean War. Upon returning from war he married the love of his life and went on to manage several supermarkets. He took pride in setting up the most spectacular fruit displays, before retiring as a produce buyer at the Hunts Point Market.
He was a quiet, kind, and gentle man; loved by all those who knew him. Together with his wife Jean, they raised their family in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn before moving to Princes' Bay in 1984. He shared beautiful memories with his family on vacations to Aruba, and Atlantic City, cruising and traveling through Europe, most notably Italy.
Bert's family wishes to convey their sincere appreciation for all the calls and prayers they have received, and for the memories that have been shared by those who knew and loved him. A special thank you to the fourth-floor nurses and aides at Eger's. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Association in dad's memory is appreciated.
Dad will be greatly missed.
