Tillie Sinagra

Tillie Mingoia Sinagra, 90, passed away on May 2, 2016, at the Addeo House surrounded by her family.
Tillie was the beloved wife of the late Frank Sinagra (1975). Surviving are her children, Roseann Mazzella, Carl and Joan Sinagra. She was predeceased by her son, Frank, who passed away in 1984. She was the mother-in-law of Frank Mazzella and Donna Sinagra; grandmother of Frankie, Daniella, and Michael Mazzella and Danielle and Carl (CJ) Sinagra, and great-grandmother of Francesco and Gianna Rose Mazzella.
Born and raised in Little Italy, N.Y., Tillie was the daughter of Salvatore and Jovanna Mingoia. She grew up on Elizabeth Street and worked hard her entire life to take care of her family. Tillie loved telling stories of her childhood years and life on Elizabeth Street.
She moved to South Beach, Staten Island where she was employed as part of the custodial staff of P.S. 23 for over 20 years and after retirement went on to work as a matron for handicapped children, always giving of herself.
Tillie enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone who came through her door. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow. Tillie treasured her family. Everyone who met Tillie was drawn into her infectious personality. She was loving and caring to everyone she met.
Tillie was a loving sister who was predeceased by her brothers, Joe, Salvatore, John, and Jimmy, and her sisters, Anna and Rose. She was the fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Her sister-in-law, Jenny Mingoia, passed away at an early age and left three children, Joanne, Carmine, and Sally. Tillie did not hesitate to care for two of the children, Carmine and Joann, while her sister, Rose, cared for Sally.
She was a very proud woman and those who met her for even a brief time were touched by her gentle heart.
The wake is today at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home from 7 t0 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass is Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 80 Jerome Ave., S.I.
