Thomas W. Stumpf, Jr., 73, passed away on March 24, 2025.
Thomas was born in the Bronx, New York and moved to Staten Island as a young man, graduating from New Dorp High School in 1969. He started his career working as a frame technician for New York Telephone. He then started working for Lucent Technologies (AT&T) as an installer and repairman. This is where he retired from.
He absolutely loved Tottenville. In 1975, he bought his first home in Tottenville where he lived for fifty years. For many years he coached basketball for YAYC and he also coached girls softball at South Shore Little League.
Thomas loved vacationing in Long Beach Island during the summer months with his family. This was a tradition that his parents started and he continued it for at least fifty years. For over thirty-five years, he travelled to car shows in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania buying and selling Slot Cars.
Thomas loved coming from a large family and all the antics that came with it. He thoroughly enjoyed the big family parties, celebrations and time spent together that go along with a large family. He was a strong man, a good friend to many and always willing to help people.
He was diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease at the age of forty-four. This disease made life very challenging, but he never let it defeat or define him. It made him a stronger person.
Thomas was pre-deceased by his mother, Gertrude Stumpf, and his niece, April Ann Stumpf. He is survived by his father, Thomas; his children, Tracy Lockwood (Patrick), Daniel; his grandchildren, who were his whole world and so proud of everything they accomplished, Alyssa, Daniel, Sean, and Nicholas; siblings, Bill, Mary Joanne Kling, Eileen Devereux, John, Brian, Anne O’Connor, Jean Fricano, Kevin, Colleen Bennett; and his dog and best bud- Oakley.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson’s Unity Walk, would be appreciated in Thomas’ name.
