Thomas J. O'Connor, 65, of Tottenville, a banker and business owner who liked to travel, died Sunday in the Carmel Richmond Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. O'Connor moved to Bulls Head in 1973. He lived in Great Kills for 14 years before settling in Tottenville in 1988.
Mr. O'Connor earned an associate's degree from the former Staten Island Community College and a bachelor of science degree from the College of Staten Island.
He held managerial positions at several Manhattan banks, including the Bank of New York Mellon and Bank of America.
In 1996, he left banking to join his wife of 40 years, the former Lillian Darcy, in her business, a conference and event-planning firm called Custom Meetings International.
Mr. O'Connor was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville.
He enjoyed visits to Las Vegas and taking cruises. He had visited five continents and was planning a journey to Australia next year.
Tom was loved dearly by our family and friends and he was literally the life of every party, said his wife, Lillian. His goal in life was to make people happy and he will be in our hearts always.
In addition to his wife, Lillian, Mr. O'Connor is survived by a son, Michael.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Arrangements include cremation.
