Thomas Kent

Thomas J. Kent, born on January 6, 1935 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his place of residence on March 8, 2025,.

He was born in Astoria, Queens and raised in Manhattan. He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Iona College and his M.A. in Sacred Science from St. John’s.  As a Christian Brother, he frequently traveled to teach chemistry, physics, and religion. His travels included Antigua, Dominica, and Irondequoit, among many others. Tom served as teacher and dean at many schools over the years, most notably, St.Joesph by the Sea H.S., where he taught for 25 years.

Tom shared a loving relationship with Margaret Sabino for over 35 years until her passing. Together, they shared a love for food, travel, and trips to Atlantic City. He is survived by her two children, Walter (Debbie) and Dorene (Paul), four grandchildren Jason (Melissa), Paige, Paul, and Nicholas, and three great grandchildren, Greyson, Colton, and Ashton. He was known by all as Poppop.
