Thelma Clara Danielsen (nee Thompson) of Princes Bay passed away December 15, 2020 at Staten Island Hospital North at the age of 102.
Thelma married Bjarne Danielsen in 1941 and the couple became the parents of Ken, Roy and Judy Murphy (Jim). She was an adored grandmother to 5 grandchildren Ken Jr. (Deidra), Kevin (Amber), Christopher (Danielle), Pamela Costanza (Vincent) and Dennis Murphy (Aimee) and eight great grandchildren Ava, Kenny, Christian, Noah, Gabriella, Sienna, Alyssa, and Vincent IV.
The Danielsen's, of Norwegian descent, relocated to Staten Island from Bay Ridge Brooklyn and Thelma and Bjarne ran a taxi business at the Princes Bay train station before opening Anderson's Annex Tavern in 1957.
Many may know her as owner of the "Annex" which would become a favorite bar and restaurant in Princes Bay. The Annex and Thelma served Staten Island's south shore with homecooking, most notably the Annex burger, for more than 50 years until the effects of super storm Sandy closed its doors forever.
When asked about her secret to a long and healthy life, Thelma said "Eat plenty of fish and don't ever go to the doctor".
