Steven M. D'Addesa, 51
Native Islander, shared his love of baseball with his son, 'played hard, loved dearly'
Steven M. D'Addesa, sometimes known as Stevie D. or Stevie Wonder, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 23, 2016, at Staten Island University Hospital, alongside his family and friends. He was 51.
Steven was born on May 11, 1965, in Staten Island, N.Y. He was born and raised in Pleasant Plains and moved to Tottenville, where he lived for over 20 years.
After marrying his Tottenville H.S. sweetheart Donna Monahan, he became the proud parent of Steven Jr., a role that he treasured more than any other. As a teenager, he worked alongside his father, Tony, at the family-owned Midfield Deli before beginning a career at the Resurrection Cemetery, where he worked for 28 years. More recently, he worked for Design Landscape and joined the CVS family in Tottenville.
He was the most caring big brother to Carolyn and Lisa and a loyal son to Tony and Barbara, whom he called daily. He was a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews, who meant the world to him.
Steven was preceded in death by his adored mother, Patricia (Coyle) D'Addesa, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
His family will be celebrating his life on Saturday, Aug. 27, and Sunday, Aug. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home. A Mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 29, at St. Joseph St. Thomas Church (6135 Amboy Rd/Maguire Ave.), S.I., at 9:30 a.m. with the burial ceremony at Resurrection Cemetery to follow.
Steven was an avid fan of popular culture. He loved classic rock music and attended many concerts. He knew every piece of trivia and sports statistic, collected newspaper headlines, and was a true NY Giants and Yankees fan. His favorite sport pastime was going to his son's baseball games. Like his son, Steven was skilled at playing baseball and won multiple trophies for both little and adult leagues. He reveled in Hollywood stories and loved comedy and movies, especially late night talk shows. Thanks to his caring nature and sense of humor, he engaged and entertained everyone he met.
He was a man that played hard, loved dearly, and cherished friends and family, without hesitation. And even if you didn't know Steve all that well, he would still be the first to crack a joke and make you smile.
