Stephen F. Scotto, 63, of Annadale, a retired gas operations supervisor and dedicated family man who loved sports, died Sunday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Born and raised in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, he attended John Jay High School in his native borough.
When he and Cathleen Savino wed, the couple moved to Marine Park, Brooklyn. They settled in Annadale 29 years ago.
Mr. Scotto was a gas operations supervisor for 22 years for Consolidated Edison in Manhattan. He retired in 1992.
He absolutely loved sports, and although he rooted for the New York Yankees and football Giants, he had sports on the TV all the time, no matter which sport it was, family said. He also had a passion for classic cars, and had restored his 1965 Thunderbird over a 10-year period. The car won many trophies and he enjoyed entering it in car shows and going to car shows.
A good athlete, Mr. Scotto was an excellent bowler. He also was handy at fixing things, and was a good neighbor who helped everyone.
He treasured his family and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
Surviving, along with Cathleen, his wife of 41 years, are his sons, Stephen D. and Nicholas; his daughter, Desiree L. Thayer; two brothers, Dominick and Ralph; a sister, Anita Nadeau, and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
