Stephanie Ann Vierno, 46, of Huguenot, a public school teacher and librarian who cherished her family, died Sunday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.

The lifelong Staten Islander was born in Mariners Harbor. She moved with family to Huguenot as a girl in 1978 and remained in the community.

A graduate of St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School, Huguenot, she received her bachelor's degree in English and education and her master's degree in education from St. John's University, Grymes Hill. She also held a professional diploma in educational administration and supervision.

During her 24-year career, Ms. Vierno taught elementary education at PS 41, New Dorp, and also became a librarian at the school.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and served on the executive board of the education club at St. John's.

Ms. Vierno was fond of reading, photography and attending the theater. She especially loved cooking and baking for family gatherings she hosted. She also liked dining out.

She lived for her family, especially her two nieces, Nicole and Lauren, said her sister-in-law, Lori Ann Vierno. She also had a special relationship with her father, George Vierno Sr., who died in 1990.

Ms. Vierno is survived by her mother, Mary Vierno, and her brother, George.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
