Shirley T. Echevarrieta

Shirley Theresa Echevarrieta passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 14, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

Born on November 20, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York to Mary LaRosa and Bernard LaRosa, Shirley was one of six siblings including three brothers and two sisters. After graduating from Manual Training High School in 1954, she went on to become a Westinghouse typist and later a rectory assistant at St. Francis DeChantal in Brooklyn, New York.

Shirley is predeceased by her husband, FDNY firefighter Fabian J. Echevarrieta. She is survived by her sons, Fabian and Damian Echevarrieta, daughter Elise Echevarrieta, grandchildren Gabrielle, Mark, and Damian Echevarrieta Jr., and countless nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

An avid collector of Victorian era antiques and NY Rangers hockey memorabilia, Shirley was a vibrant light that illuminated the lives of her entire family. She will be remembered for her quick wit, musicality, and unconditional love.

Services will be held on November 18, 2024 at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home from 2PM-4PM and 7PM-9PM. A mass will be held at St. Joseph St. Thomas church on November 19 at 10:30 AM. 

In lieu of flowers, loved ones are encouraged to make a donation in Shirley’s name to Friends of Firefighters.
