Scott Spina

June 14, 1948 — November 23, 2024

Scott “The Plateman” Spina, aged 76, passed away peacefully on November 23rd at home with his loving wife Joyce by his side. Scott was a lifelong Staten Islander and graduated from Augustinian Academy in 1966, he was also a member of the Augustinian Alumni. He bravely served in Vietnam with the US Army 82nd Airborne Division from 1969-1971 and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Upon returning from Vietnam, he and his father Dominick co-founded “D&S Private Service Bureau”, which is now known as “The Plateman”. For the past 50 years, Scott has operated and run “The Plateman”, his daughter Stacy and his loyal employees by his side before his retirement earlier this year.

Scott was a charter member of the Central Kiwanis Club, a Distinguished Past Lieutenant Governor, Past President, Past Secretary and served as President of the NCK Foundation Board. He served his community with dedication and generosity for over 34 years. Scott was a lifelong sports enthusiast; he played baseball while in school and later on softball with Dependable Auto Body alongside his many friends. Later in life he loved to play golf with his Kiwanis buddies, and always enjoyed his vacations to South Carolina with them. In the past few years, he became an options trader and enjoyed dabbling with his stocks.

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Joyce and his two daughters, Melissa Brown and Stacy Hellem. He was also the proud papa of five grandchildren, Tessa, Jenna, TJ, Prescott and Tori and his great grandson Sal. He will be greatly missed by his furry companion, Ruffian.
