Salvatore Potestivo Sr., 90, of Prince's Bay, a retired self-employed accountant who will be remembered as positive, energetic and devoted to his family, died Tuesday at home.
Mr. Potestivo was born and raised in Brooklyn. He graduated from Boys High School in his native borough.
He moved to Great Kills in 1966, and settled in Princes' Bay in 2013.
Prior to becoming a self-employed accountant, Mr. Potestivo worked as an office manager at the Shipping Guide in Manhattan, a company that regulated government guidelines in in the trucking industry.
When the company left New York, Mr. Potestivo opened his own business VP Motor Rates, also a trucking regulatory overseer.
An accomplished dancer, he was a member of the New Dorp and Arrochar Friendship Clubs, where he loved to go dancing. Along with other club members, he enjoyed performing skits and also acted as deejay, creating mixed tapes of classic 40's and 50's music, playing at senior residences throughout the Island.
He was fond of writing and wrote his own original screenplay. He also liked to solve Sudoku puzzles and attend sporting events that his grandchildren were involved in.
His greatest joy was his family, family said.
He is survived by his sons, Vincent, Salvatore Jr., Joseph and Michael; his daughters, Benita Kiernan, Joanne Potestivo and Francesca Yerke; his brother Joseph; 21 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Arrangements include cremation.
