Rodney (Rocky) Biel, 69, passed away on June 7, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He was a native Staten Islander, graduated from Tottenville H.S. and was voted best dancer his senior year. He played football for the Plainsmen before being drafted and serving in Vietnam. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service upon his return until he retired. Rodney was an avid fisherman and enjoyed making his own poles. Rodney is survived by his mother, Frances Biel; his brother, Jeff Biel (Jane); his sister, Patricia Rice; his son , William Biel (Kristin); his daughter, Sharran Sutherland (Michael). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren. There will be a funeral service on Friday at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Cremation will be private. Friends may visit Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rodney's name to University Hospice and/or St. Jude's Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
