STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Robert J. Gregory, 82, a U.S. Navy veteran and devoted husband and father, died Tuesday in Sea View Hospital Rehabilitation Center and Home.
Born in Port Said, Egypt, Mr. Gregory moved to Brooklyn in 1929 where he attended a technical high school before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1950. He then moved to New Dorp and finally settled in Prince's Bay.
Mr. Gregory worked for New Jersey Transit as a signal maintenance worker for over 30 years, retiring in 1988.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, old movies and woodworking.
"He was a good father and husband," said wife of 57 years, Florence.
In addition to his wife, Florence, surviving are two sons, Robert Jr. and Andrew; four daughters, Barbara Bonalski, Joan Manfre, Geralynn McKinney and Nancy Bonforti; a brother, Michael; two sisters, Violet Gregory and Amy Allocca, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Pleasant Plains. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
