Former Staten Islander Robert Grant, 77, of Lincroft, N.J., a retired bookkeeper and devoted family man who had a passion for music, died Sunday in Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, N.J.
Born and raised in Quincy, Mass., he graduated from Quincy High School in 1954.
Mr. Grant served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era, stationed in Lakehurst, N.J., and attained the rank of petty officer.
He moved to New Brighton in 1959, and five years later, moved to Tottenville, where he lived for 10 years. He then relocated to Pennsylvania and to Washingtonville, N.Y. He settled in Lincroft in 2011.
Mr. Grant worked as a bookkeeper for several different companies, including the former R.J. Lynch, Stapleton, where he worked for 20 years. He retired eight years ago.
He enjoyed playing his guitar and had an extensive collection of music CDs and DVDs.
He loved anything to do with music -- that was his passion,' said his daughter, Ruth Kelly.
Mr. Grant also was skilled at solving crossword puzzles, and was a fan of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team.
He was preceded in death by his son, Louis, and his daughter, Karen Kelly.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Joan Dietrich; his daughters, Ruth Kelly and Dorothy Horvath; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, both in Tottenville. Arrangements include cremation.
