Richard O. Sarnes, Jr., a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, passed away on November 22,2024, at the age of 53. Born on September 28, 1971, in Tottenville, Richie was a native Staten Islander and went to P.S. 1 during his years of elementary school. He was a cherished member of his community and a dedicated mechanic for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). Known as a hero to many, he was selfless and did everything he could to help anybody who needed it.
Richie was a person of many passions. He enjoyed leading motorcycle runs and dressing as Santa for the Tottenville Christmas parade, bringing joy and laughter to children and families alike. He loved to cook and always made sure the recipes were perfect. He loved taking the boat, fishing, tubing, and enjoying sunsets at the lighthouse. He enjoyed sewing and making his kids costumes for school plays.
Richard is survived by his father, Richard O. Sarnes, Sr.; his mother, Kathleen Collins (nee Bungay); his two sons, Justin and Tyler Sarnes; his siblings, Melissa Reino (Sarnes), Daniel Sarnes, and Philip Sarnes; along with several nieces and nephews, including Ashley, Emma, Adriana, CJ, and his great-nieces, Athena and Violet.
Richie will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
