Richard "Bucky" Powers, aged 81, passed away on February 21, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on July 8, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Frank and Mary (nee: Leonard) Powers.
He joined the United States Navy in 1960 and served proudly on the USS Galveston until 1964.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Margaret "Maggie" (nee: Kearns); his children, Billy (Hannah), Richard (Danielle), Tara, Ryan (Brenda), and is pre-deceased by his youngest son, Michael Powers. He is loved and remembered by his grandchildren, Liam, Jillian, James, and Patrick.
He is pre-deceased by his brother, Bill Evans, and his sister, Patsy McCarthy along with Terry. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen "Pud" Nelson, his brother, John Walsh (Ann), and his sister, Fran Murphy (Jim). He is loved and remembered by his Aunt Mae, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Richie retired from Verizon in 2002 after thirty five years as a splicer, mostly in Queens and Staten Island. In retirement, he moved to Pennsylvania in 2002 with his family. During a late mid-life crisis, he decided to join the Merchant Marines and supplied Navy ships in the Middle East. Enjoying views of Dubai and other foreign lands late into his 60's. He enjoyed walks around the block, the New York Post and Daily News, crossword puzzles, Sudoku and large coffees. Richie will be forever remembered for his love of Brooklyn, John Wayne, James Cagney and most anything on Turner Classis Movies.
