Funeral director, baseball coach, longtime Staten Islander
Richard J. Magnussen, 81, passed away on June 2, 2018, in New Jersey.
Richard was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and in 1965 he moved to Butler Manor in Staten Island.
Richard received an associate's degree in liberal arts from CUNY-Staten Island. He was a funeral director for Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home, Service Corporation International. He enjoyed being a handyman, was part of the Men's Club at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, and coached baseball at South Shore Little League and Babe Ruth League. He enjoyed and loved his family, friends and pets, loved time with his grandchildren, and was a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Richard is survived by his wife, Gerry; his children, Scott (Patricia), Laura Ann Imsho (Jeff), Mari Huetter (the late Michael), Keith (Jenny); a sister, Judith Bettum-Anderson; brother, Roger Magnussen; and grandchildren, Robert, Jordan, Stevie, Sami, Maxx, and Nina.
Funeral is from Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Help of Christian's RC Church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children would be appreciated.
