STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Ralph J. Perricone, 86, of Tottenville, a retired government worker who was involved with Little League baseball for 48 years, died Wednesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.
Born in Queens, Mr. Perricone was raised at the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin, Mount Loretto, Pleasant Plains.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater in the 656th Battalion of the military police field artillery.
He later settled in Tottenville. For over 30 years, he worked as a quality insurance inspector for the government. He retired in 1981.
He also worked with Little League baseball for 48 years. He was a manager and served on the board of directors for South Shore Little League for over 25 years and was the Staten Island district administrator for 10 years, as well as the section coordinator of tournaments. He coached the first two South Shore Little League teams that went to the Eastern Regional in 1976 and 1977.
Mr. Perricone was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville.
His wife of 54 years, Ethel, died in 2005. His son, Frank, died in 1979.
Surviving are his son, Ralph; two brothers, Anthony and Michael; two sisters, Marie DeFilippo and Emma Charno, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
