Priscilla H. Canada, 96, a former A&P employee and a caring mother who lived in Tottenville for most of her life, died Friday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.

The lifelong Staten Islander was born Priscilla Vilmanski in Rossville. After she and George Canada wed, they moved to Tottenville in the early 1940s.

Mrs. Canada, known to her friends as Pat, was an employee of the A&P grocery store in Tottenville for many years.

She was a member of Huguenot Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and the St. Mark's Friendship Club, Prince's Bay.

She volunteered at the Tottenville Thrift Shop, which benefited the Staten Island Mental Health Society.

Mrs. Canada was a good neighbor and surrogate mother to many, her family said. She was always doing kind deeds for friends and putting the needs of others before her own.

She loved to travel, and one of the highlights of her life was a trip to England via the Queen Elizabeth II and a flight back home to the United States aboard a Concorde jet. She also enjoyed cooking for family and friends, and gardening.

She attended the Hungarian Reformed Church, Charleston.

Her husband, George, died in 1978. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Georgene Muzzio, in 1993, and her daughter, Juliann Trigo, in 1991.

She is survived by her grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Arrangements, including burial in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood, are being handled by the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville.
