Philip Maffie, 58, of Rossville, a city Sanitation Department worker and a loving family man, died Friday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.

Born and raised in St. George, he was a graduate of Curtis High School.

Mr. Maffie moved to Graniteville in 1983, to Meiers Corners in 1989, and settled in Rossville in 2003.

He worked for the city Department of Sanitation for 28 years, assigned to Staten Island.

Mr. Maffie most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His two grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved being with them.

He also loved following all sports, especially football, and his job and co-workers.

He will be missed by all, including 'Bear,' 'Inspector Gadget,' and Gloria, and Patty, said his wife, the former Linda Fiorello

Surviving, along with Linda, his wife of 25 years, are his son, Steven Hayes, and two grandchildren.

Private arrangements are being handled by the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville.

Visitation: Friends will be received on Tuesday February 26, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 Only
