STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Lifelong Prince's Bay resident Peter P. Glismann Jr., 79, who was devoted to his family and loved the sea, died Saturday in the Haven Hospice, in Manhattan.

A graduate of Tottenville High School, he joined the city Police Department in 1955 and served in the Harbor Patrol Unit for most of his career. He retired in 1975.

Mr. Glismann then went to work on the waterfront as a tankerman and deckhand aboard tugboats. He was a member of Local 333, the United Marine Division of the International Longshoremen's Association.

He developed a love of digging for clams as a teenager and continued the hobby throughout his life at both Raritan Bay and also in Atlantic Highlands, N.J., where he had many friends.

Mr. Glismann was a member of the South Shore Swim Club and the Princess Bay Boatmen's Association.

He most treasured time with his family and friends.

Mr. Glismann was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, Pleasant Plains.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Margaret (Peggy) O'Dea; his sons, Peter Jr. and John; his daughter, Kathleen Anderson; two sisters, Doris Kozma and Marjorie Linane; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be tomorrow from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Arrangements include cremation

Services: Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM, Wednesday March 28,2012 at St Thomas the Apostle R.C. Chuurch. Cremation will be private.

Visitation: Friends will be received Tuesday March 27,2012 2pm - 4pm & 7pm - 9pm
