Nancy Filoramo

June 6, 1921 — May 2, 2017

Beloved by all who knew her, Nancy Morano Filoramo (nee Benigno), a resident of Bethlehem, Pa., for the last 18 months who had previously resided in Staten Island, passed away on May 2, 2017.
Born and raised in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, Nancy initially moved to Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, with her husband, Frank Morano, a World War II veteran she frequently traded romance letters with during his service overseas.
The daughter of Frank and Catherine Benigno, Nancy developed a passion for sewing, cooking and a love of dancing at an early age. Her talent as a seamstress was frequently used in the service of others, as when she made the curtains for Staten Island's P.S. 1 library.
Nancy initially moved to Staten Island in 1982, when she was predeceased by her first husband.
She married Frank Filoramo in 1989 and relocated to Egg Harbor Township, N.J., where she and Frank enjoyed frequent trips to Atlantic City, boating, and card games with friends. They returned to Staten Island in 2010 to be closer to their family and enjoyed 25 years of marriage until Frank passed away in 2013.
Nancy's return to Staten Island was celebrated not only by her family, but by the community as well, and was commemorated with a New York City proclamation. She also served as a poster child in the Borough's anti-litter campaign in 2015. She recently moved to Pennsylvania to be close to her great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind her brother, Caesar Benigno; her daughter, Madeline Scala; son, Carmine Morano; son-in-law, Joseph Scala; daughter-in-law, Liz Morano, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
In addition to being a masterful cook and having an infectious smile, Nancy devoted her entire life to her family and regularly prayed the rosary. She had a fondness for Scotch whiskey, which may have contributed to both her long life and lifetime of quick wit.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 8, at Our Lady Help of Christians, 7396 Amboy Road.
