Michael Maffeo, 73, of Tottenville, a retired city Sanitation worker and school bus driver who was well-liked and devout in his faith, died Wednesday in New York Presbyterian Hospital, Manhattan.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, he graduated from New Utrecht High School in his native borough.
He settled in Tottenville 43 years ago.
Mr. Maffeo worked for 20 years at the city Sanitation Department, retiring in 1984. He then was a school bus driver for Atlantic Express until 2009.
He was a member of Manresa Council, Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Maffeo enjoyed going to the gym, traveling, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed meeting with friends for coffee regularly.
He was a devout parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C., Tottenville.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Kathleen; his son, Kenneth; his daughters, Kathleen Milazzo and Doreen Napoli; his brother, John, and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
