Michael G. French, 53, of Huguenot, a city mechanic, died Tuesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.
Born in Brooklyn, he settled in Huguenot in 1961.
Mr. French worked for 30 years as a mechanic for the New York City Department of Sanitation, working out of the Travis division. He retired in 2010.
Mr. French graduated from Tottenville High School.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles, spending time with his family and his children.
His son, Michael Thomas, died in 1980.
Surviving are two sons, Michael and James; one daughter, Danielle French; his mother, Janet French; two brothers, Tommy and Kevin French; four sisters, Kathleen McNamara, Patti Henry, Maureen Frank and Ellen Semler; his longtime companion, Maria Burns, and his former wife, Karen Ruddy.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Huguenot. Arrangements include cremation.
