STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Michael Day, 42, a restaurant food manager and a life long resident of Pleasant Plains, died Saturday at home of cancer.
A graduate of Tottenville High School, Mr. Day also graduated from the Culinary Institute of New York in 1990.
Mr. Day was a food manager for a restaurant in Lincoln Center, Manhattan. He also worked as an equipment mechanic for H&E Tools in Pleasant Plains from 1998 to 2011. He owned the Moroccan Sun tanning salon from 2002 to 2007 and a food truck that he operated on the North Shore from 2009 to 2011.
Mr. Day played volleyball on a team at the Staten Island Fun League in Midland Beach.
In addition to volleyball, enjoyed spending time with friends and family, kayaking, dancing and swimming. He also enjoyed caring for his pet Rottweiler.
Mr. Day was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church in Pleasant Plains.
He is survived by his partner of 11 years, Jose Bedoya; his mother, Irene Day; two brothers, George and William, and seven sisters, Mary Day, Christine Cosgriff, Patricia Day, Irene Tercovich, Maureen Borg, Jeanette Day and Michelle Hanover.
The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Arrangements include cremation.
