Matthew F. Moore Jr. ("Matty”), a Radiological Technologist and life long Staten Island resident; died Friday April 17, 2020 from complications of Covid-19 at the age of 52. Matty is survived by his parents Matthew and Julia Moore, his sister Erin and brother-in-law Adam Esposito, his two nephews Stephen (his godson) and Brendan. He is also survived by over 100 first cousins that were more like his brothers and sisters and more friends than one can count, who loved him so.
Matty was born on October 29, 1967 and spent his childhood making memories living first on Foster Road and then he moved in 1977 to his residence on Amboy Road. Matty was a parishioner of St. Joseph- St. Thomas Parish where he attended grammar school and was an alter server. He attended St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, NJ where he played soccer and received several awards for track. He served as an alter server at the first ever dedication of the Resurrection Cemetery where he also went to work as a grounds keeper in his teenage years. He worked many years at Permacel in New Brunswick as a machine operator. In 1998, Matty began his life long dream of becoming a New York City Fireman first starting in the Bronx before transferring to Staten Island at Engine 161/ 81 . Ironically the name of the firehouse is “Beach Boys” and Matty’s favorite place in the world was at the beach. He loved the brotherhood of the FDNY. Matty was a 911 hero who worked tirelessly every day for three months with the recovery of victims at ground zero. He retired in 2006.
He returned to Middlesex County Radiological Program and became a Radiological technologist at Northwell Go Health Urgent Care in Eltingville up until he contracted the Covid-19. Matthew enjoyed many summers as a child with his cousins and family in Ireland and down at the Jersey shore. He loved playing golf and every year he and his father traveled to Myrtle Beach to play golf as well as he had yearly trips with his friends where often enough he could be found playing 18 holes while wearing a kilt or crazy outlandish outfit. He will be greatly missed.
Matthew will be in repose on Monday, April 27, 2020 @ Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home Staten Island, NY from 1 to 4 PM for those who would like to pay respects. A Christian Mass and burial and celebration of Matthew’s life will be planned in the near future and information will be forwarded and made available at that time.
