Native Staten Islander Mary Virginia Weingartner, 76, of Richmond Valley, a homemaker and retired housekeeper, died Tuesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.
Born Mary Sindle in Rossville, she moved to West Brighton in 1975; Oakwood Heights in 1978, and to Richmond Valley in 1989.
Mrs. Weingartner worked for 25 years as a private housekeeper, retiring in 2008. Prior to that, she worked for a short time as a bank worker in Manhattan before leaving to raise a family.
She graduated from Tottenville High School.
Mrs. Weingartner was parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society.
She enjoyed sewing, painting and reading. She also loved horses and owned a horse when she was a child.
Surviving are a husband of 54 years, John; four sons, John, Kenneth, Robert and Matthew; one daughter, Anne Weingartner; four brothers, Terry, Thomas, Robert and James; three sisters, Patricia Ferrier, Carolyn Weber and Nancy King; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A blessing will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
