Mary L. Post, 81, of Tottenville, a retired clerk who enjoyed socializing and will be remembered as an optimist, died Tuesday in Addeo House Hospice, Egbertville.
Born Mary Lagille in Prince's Bay, she lived there until 1992, when she moved to Tamarac, Florida. In 2005, she returned to the Island, moving to Tottenville.
A graduate of the former St. Louis Academy, Pleasant Plains, she later attended secretarial school.
Mrs. Post worked as a nurse's aide at Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills, and retired in 1991 as a unit clerk.
She was a parishioner of St. Joseph-St. Thomas R.C. Parish, Pleasant Plains, where she volunteered as a Cub Scout leader.
Mrs. Post enjoyed knitting, playing cards, bingo, visits to Atlantic City and taking long scenic drives with her husband. She was a social person who enjoyed attending parties and hosting holiday gatherings.
Her favorite pastime was being with her grandchildren who brought her great joy.
She was an optimist, always seeing the world in a positive light, her family said.
Her husband of 44 years, William, died in 2000. She also was preceded in death by her son, James in 1987.
Surviving Mrs. Post are her sons, Timothy and Christopher; her daughters, Pamela Turkus, Anne Abbruzzese and Marianne Brown; her sister, Rose O'Brien; 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, both Tottenville. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
