Longtime Oakwood resident Marion Scarpa, 87, a homemaker and former bookkeeper and the loving matriarch of three generations of her family, died Friday in Eger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertville, after a week's stay.
Born Marion Lanzano in Brooklyn, she moved to Oakwood in 1962.
Primarily a homemaker, after her children were older, she worked for more than 20 years as a bookkeeper at Lester Schwab Katz & Dwyer, a Manhattan law firm.
She was a member of the AARP, Grandmothers' Club, and Red Hat Society.
In her younger years, Mrs. Scarpa enjoyed bowling in a league, traveling with friends and attending social functions.
She was devoted to her family, and loved attending her children's activities and sporting events, and later, those of her grandchildren.
She was a wonderful mother who was selfless and giving, and with having all boys, she had to have a sense of humor, family said, adding she will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Scarpa was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, New Dorp, where she was a member of the Rosary Club.
Her husband, Ferdinand, died in 1991.
She is survived by her sons, Anthony, John, Frank, Michael and Robert; her brothers, Robert and John (Sonny) Lanzano; 16 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, New Dorp. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, also New Dorp.
