Marie T. Dunigan

Marie Dunigan ,87, a life long Tottenville resident and devoted family matriarch passed away on July 19, 2023.

 Born Marie Theresa Zsadanyi in Richmond Memorial Hospital on October 3, 1935, Marie was the only child of Paul and Amelia Zsadanyi.  A graduate of PS1 and Tottenville high school she worked as a secretary at Nassau smelting before her marriage. She married Thomas Dunigan on November 9, 1957 and raised her family in her beloved Tottenville. She was actively involved in Tottenville youth activities and was a cofounder of the Yetmen Avenue, youth club, and Tottenville improvement council summer day camp. She was former President of both the PS1 and Tottenville high school PTAs, a den mother and troop committee member of both packs and troop 21.

She received all of her sacraments at Our Lady Help of Christians RC Church and volunteered for parish activities before becoming the coordinator of religious education there in 1989, a position she held for 26 years until her retirement in 2015. She was also a founding member of the social league for United Tottenville.

Affectionately known to all as Nana, she enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time at her LBI beach house. Nana was happiest though when she was laughing surrounded by her family. Marie is predeceased by her husband Thomas who passed away in 2002 and her beloved son, Kevin, who passed away in 2001.

She survived by her son, Bryan, daughter-in-law, Lori, daughter, Denise Carsten And son-in-law Bill, six grandchildren, Sean, Michael, Erin, Meaghan, Daniel, and Emily and four great grandchildren, Julia, Mackenzie, Briana, and Ryan.
