STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Former Staten Islander Margaret Ronconi, 95, of Whiting, N.J., a loving matriarch and active community member, died Friday in St. Peter's Hospital, Albany.

Born in Annadale Margaret Murphy, she lived there for 67 years and was involved in the community. She was a charter member and founder of the Annadale Garden Club; president of the PTAs of PS 36 and Tottenville High School, and president of the Annadale Community Association.

Active in Democratic politics, she served for many years as a Democratic committeewoman and secretary of South Shore Democratic Club.

Mrs. Ronconi spent 13 years working in the Richmond County Clerk's Office. In 1977 she retired as senior clerk with the state Supreme Court of Richmond County. She had also worked for the city Buildings Department.

In 1982 she and her husband moved to Whiting, N.J., where she was a volunteer for the Deborah Heart and Lung Center's Manchester chapter, raising funds and presenting a testimony in favor of center to the New Jersey state legislature in Trenton.

She was also active in the Crestwood Garden Club; the American Irish Club of Whiting, and the Whiting First Aid Auxiliary for which she baked countless cakes and cupcakes.

Her husband of 56 years, Joseph, died in 1992.

Her daughter, Ruth Ronconi Crowley, died in 1997. She was also predeceased by her great-granddaughter, Margaret Winifred Ronconi.

Surviving are two sons, Richard and James; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Rossville. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rossville.
