Margaret (Peggy) Gamarra, 64, of New Dorp, a lifelong Staten Islander and retired nurse's aide, died Saturday at home.

Born Margaret Huben in Prince's Bay, she graduated from Countess Moore Catholic High School and earned her bachelor of arts degree from Audrey Cohen College.

She settled in New Dorp 35 years ago.

Mrs. Gamarra worked as a nurse's aide at Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertville, and was dedicated to the social services community, working with numerous agencies until her retirement. Her warmth and caring affected hundreds of lives for the better over the years, family said.

She was an avid reader and writer and had a deep appreciation for music and singing.

Mrs. Gamarra was an active parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, New Dorp, where she served as a Eucharistic minister.

She and her husband, Eduardo, celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary this year. The couple spent their retirement exploring the tri-state area and watching the sunsets by the beach in Great Kills.

Also surviving are her sons, Eddie, Mark and Matthew; a sister, Mary-Rose Huben Sondergard, and two brothers, Thomas and Gerry Huben.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Arrangements include cremation.
