Native Staten Islander Margaret Anderson, 96, of Tottenville, a retired high school head cook and a loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Oct. 4 in Staten Island University Hospital, Princes Bay.
Born Margaret Kish in Richmond Valley, Mrs. Andersen had lived in Tottenville since since early childhood.
A graduate of Tottenville High School, Mrs. Anderson was the head cook at her alma mater for 35 years, retiring in 1985.
She volunteered for 43 years as the treasurer and a store clerk at a thrift shop that benefitted the Staten Island Mental Health Society.
She was also the secretary of the former Richmond Rebekah Lodge and a member of the Women's Society of St. Paul's Methodist Church, which she had attended since the late 1940s. Mrs. Anderson also was a member of the Tottenville Friendship Club and enjoyed cooking and baking for friends and family.
She was a wonderful wife and a great mom,' said her son, Dennis. She was a fantastic cook.'
In addition to her son, Dennis, Mrs. Anderson is survived by her husband of 71 years, Adrian S. Anderson; her son, Adrian (Chip); her sisters, Ann Kish and Esther Muir, and one granddaughter.
The memorial service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Methodist Church. The Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home in Tottenville is handling the arrangements, which included cremation.
