Mabel V. Lagno (nee Caldare) 97, died peacefully on April 4, 2016, at her daughter's home on Staten Island.
Born in Manhattan, N.Y., Mabel lived on Staten Island, N.Y., for 85 years
She was a Girl Friday for a N.Y. insurance company in Manhattan. During World War II, she helped by working nights in a local ammunition factory on Staten Island.
Mabel was a homemaker.
She belonged to Renew (a church group) and a sewing group in her younger days. She enjoyed walking, going to the movies, visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and telling her marvelous stories. She also enjoyed going to Mass, reading, praying and watching sunsets, as well as keeping in touch with family and friends and going for frozen yogurt. Mabel loved to go to their shore house. She was ahead of her time with recycling and decorating.
Mabel attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.
Her husband of 56 years, John F. Lagno, died in 1999.
She is survived by her daughters, Joan M. Catalano, Elizabeth Rudolph, Susan F. Lagno; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her son, John E. Lagno, died in 2011.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church on Friday at 10 a.m. Entombment is at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, N.J.
Friends may visit Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home. When visiting, please refrain from wearing any perfumes or scents due to a family health issue.
