Former Staten Islander Louise Scheid, 92, a retired school attendance aide, died Tuesday in the Health First Regional Medical Center, Melbourne, Fla.
Born Louise Marie Jeffers in Stapleton, she moved to Pleasant Plains in 1960 and to Melbourne in 2007.
A graduate of McKee High School, Mrs. Scheid was an attendance aide at Bernstein Intermediate School in Huguenot for 25 years.
She was a member and former officer of the Prince's Bay Women's Club. She was also a member of the auxiliary for 42 years at the former Richmond Memorial Hospital and later Staten Island University Hospital, accumulating 5,147 hours of service. For her service, she was awarded the 40-year award by the hospital and the United Hospital Fund Award.
Mrs. Scheid enjoyed crocheting, solving crossword puzzles, cooking and was a fan of the New York Yankees. She received several awards for her baking, and was known for unique hand-painted China baby shoes that she made for children of family and friends.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stapleton.
Her husband of 66 years, William, died in 2006.
She is survived by three sons, William, Jr., Richard and Robert; a daughter, Karen Molloy; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
The Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, is handling the arrangements, which includes an 11 a.m. service Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by cremation.
