Lorraine M. Kenny

Lorraine Kenny, nee Stergious, was born in Staten Island on November 22,
1945. She passed in the borough of her birth on October 9, 2023. Lorraine was a
lifelong resident of Staten Island, as were her parents, who were in the first
graduation classes of New Dorp High School. Lorraine herself graduated from
New Dorp High School in 1963, where she was a superior student, earning an
invitation to join the Arista National Honor Society. She earned both academic
and commercial diplomas. She was also voted the best dancer in her graduating
class! She taught dancing, primarily to children, at her father’s dance studio in
Stapleton.
Lorraine spent most of her younger adult years as a legal assistant, initially
trained by the prestigious NYC law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore. She went
on to work at various law firms, performing a wide-range of legal services,
including conducting conferences, interviewing clients and witnesses, placing
cases on the courts’ calendars and making court appearances. She also handled
infant compromises for several firms, including that of Hon. Sybil Hart Kooper,
later an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, 2d Department.
Lorraine went on to join the New York State Court System in 1984. By
1990 she had advanced to the position of Chief Clerk of the Staten Island Civil
Court, remaining in that capacity until her retirement in 2009.
Lorraine is survived by her loving husband, James F. Kenny, they were
together for more than 36 years. She is also survived by her sister Diane Siefert;
bother George Stergious, niece Kristy Britz, a teacher, and her six Kenny stepchildren:

Harkins, RN, attorney Paul Kenny and high school Principal John Kenny.
