It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Linda Gail Turner Murphy (age 73) who died on February 7, 2021 after courageously battling cancer. Linda was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, the oldest of five children. She was a military brat who graduated from Wagner High School, Clark Air Force Base, Philippines in 1966. She later moved to Brooklyn, New York after marrying Michael J. Murphy. Together they had five children. Linda went on to work for NYC Department of Correction as a Correction Officer at Riker’s Island and later retired after an injury. She was married to the late Stephen Bettenhauser from 1984-1994. She then met Mark W. Lane her life partner of 26 years.
After retiring, Linda enjoyed her most favorite hobbies which included antiquing and genealogy. Most of her time was spent with her children and grandchildren who she loved dearly. Linda was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She had a love for photography and was known for taking the best pictures at family gatherings. She loved to travel and was always looking forward to the next road trip, especially Atlantic City.
Linda is survived by her two daughters Linda Aue and Christine Esposito, her sons in law Chuck Aue and Salvatore Esposito, her two sons James D. Murphy and John E. Murphy III and two daughters in law, Kelly Murphy and Alycia Murphy; her fifteen grandchildren Charles Aue, Brian Aue, Marissa Esposito, Madison Esposito, Jennifer Esposito and Janelle Esposito, Breana Murphy, McKenzie Murphy, Triston Murphy, Nathaniel Murphy, Forrest Murphy, Kathleen Murphy, John Murphy, and Kenneth Murphy; her stepdaughter Meredith and grandson Noah. She is also survived by her sisters Beverly Lyle, Rebecca McDonald and Sandee Turner. She is preceded in death by her parents William T. Turner and Anne Turner, her brother James D. Turner and her son, Brian Michael Murphy.
