Longtime Staten Islander Lawrence F. Zito, 84, of Tottenville, a retired sheet metal worker and a veteran, who enjoyed watching sports, died Tuesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Mr. Zito was born on Staten Island but grew up in Elizabeth, N.J. He lived in Eltingville before settling in Tottenville in 1971.
He worked for 25 years as a sheet metal worker -- first at Bilou Heating and Air Conditioning for 15 years, then at Scaran.
Mr. Zito was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 35 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1953.
In his leisure, he enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, Rangers and the football Giants. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening.
He was a parishioner of Holy Child R.C. Church, Eltingville.
His wife of 35 years, the former Elizabeth (Betty) Carey, died in 1998.
He is survived by a son, Lawrence; a brother Louis Zito; one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter.
Arrangements, which include cremation, were handled by the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville.
