Lawrence P. Jensen, 77, of Richmond Valley, a retired NYPD detective, who was devoted to his family, died Monday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Mr. Jensen was born and raised in Prince's Bay. After marrying the former Patricia Garrity, the couple lived in Tottenville. In 1965, they settled in Richmond Valley.
Mr. Jensen graduated from Tottenville High School.
His career in the city Police Department spanned 35 years. He began as an officer and worked his way up to detective second grade. He retired in 1995 from the warrant squad. Mr. Jensen was a member of the Holy Name Society.
An avid golfer, Mr. Jensen enjoyed attending his grandsons' baseball games. He also enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Jensen served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, Patricia, he is survived by three sons, Michael, Thomas and Lawrence, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Help of Christians Church, both in Tottenville. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
