Former Staten Islander Laura Travers, 90, of Allentown, Pa., a department store sales assistant who was devoted to her family, died Monday in the Lehigh Center, a rehabilitation facility in Macungie, Pa.
Born Laura Borg in Gibraltar, she met her future husband, Dick Travers, in London during World War II. They married in 1943 and immigrated to the United States in 1948, moving to St. George. They settled in Eltingville in 1957. Mrs. Travers moved to the Country Meadows retirement community in Allentown five years ago.
She was a longtime sales assistant at the former Mary's Department Store in Great Kills, retiring in 1985.
Mrs. Travers was a former member of the CYO Senior Center, Pleasant Plains.
While living on the Island, she was a parishioner of St. Clare's R.C. Church, Great Kills.
Dick, her husband of 50 years, Dick, died in 1993.
Surviving are her sons, Richard and Robert; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
