A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville, for Kyle John Miller, 18, of Tottenville, a soft-spoken, dedicated and skilled mechanic, who died Sunday in Staten Island University Hospital from injuries he sustained in a car crash last Wednesday.

Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home in Tottenville is handling arrangements, which include burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.

The accident occurred just before 2 a.m. Dec. 4. Mr. Miller was driving his red 1992 Nissan on Gulf Avenue just south of Forest Avenue in Bloomfield, when it spun and slid out of control, slamming into two utility poles. He was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, where he remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.

At the time of his death, Mr. Miller was working as an auto technician at the Nissan service center in Grasmere.

Born and raised in Tottenville, Mr. Miller was a 2012 graduate of Tottenville High School. He was attending Brookdale Community College in Middletown, N.J., where he was working toward a degree in automobile technology.

His many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends described Mr. Miller as soft-spoken and quiet and passionate about cars.

When he wasn't working at the auto dealership he was working on his own car, which he spent 18 month restoring. He did his own welding on the project, family members said.

He also enjoyed making trips to Englishtown, N.J., where he would participate in drift racing at the Englishtown track.

In addition to his love for cars, Mr. Miller enjoyed BMX biking and fishing.

He was a great kid. He had a magnetic personality. To know him was to love him, said his dad, John.

In addition to his father, Mr. Miller is survived by his mother, Lori Miller; a brother, Kevin Miller; a sister, Kristen Miller, and his maternal grandfather, Joseph Steinhauer
