Katherine Louise Figuly, 89
Beloved mother of nine, retired gift shop manager and longtime Islander
Katherine Louise Figuly (nee Williams), 89, passed away Oct. 16, 2017, at the Golden Gate Nursing Home of breast cancer; she had Alzheimer's for 12 years.
Born in Salisbury, Md., she lived on Staten Island for 69 years. She was a general manager at Sailor Snug Harbor Gift Shop, buying and sales, setting up the store for nine years, retiring in 1989.
She graduated from Wicomico High School in Salisbury, Md., and attended Our Lady Help of Christians RC Church. She was involved in Ocean Waves Square Dancing, Our Lady Help of Christians Rosary and Altar Society, Folk Choir, and Mater Christi Guild, and was Rosary and Altar gift shop manager.
Katherine enjoyed traveling home and abroad, oil painting, family events with the kids, arts and crafts, and spending time with grandchildren. She was noted for Who's Who in Professional Women Services.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Alfred F. Figuly (d. April 27, 2013); her parents, Lewis Williams and Martha Edyth Lewis, and grandparents, Elijah Henry S. Lewis and Sarah Elizabeth Moore.
Katherine is survived by her children, Robert, Alfred J. III, Ronald, Paul, John and Michael Figuly, Margaret Figuly, Mary Navas and Theresa Figuly-Auffredou; her brother, Robert Williams; 20 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral from Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home is on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial is at Our Lady Help of Christians R.C Church at 10 a.m. Interment is in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday, Oct. 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
