STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Longtime Staten Islander Katherine Damato, 72, a retired office manager, died Sunday in her Annadale home.
She was born Katherine Chirchirillo in Brooklyn, where she graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School. Mrs. Damato lived in Brooklyns Canarsie section until relocating to Staten Island in 1969. She lived in several communities and settled in Annadale in 1986.
For 25 years, Mrs. Damato worked as an office manager in the Eltingville dental practice of Dr. Francis Nonnenmacher. She retired in 2007. An avid shopper who loved to travel, Mrs. Damato enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, friends and family. She also loved animals, her family said.
Mrs. Damato was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, John; her three sons, Anthony, John Jr. and Frank; one brother; one sister, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be tomorrow from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Arrangements include private cremation.
