Katherine 'Kay' Cappetta, 78
SIUH volunteer known as the candy lady
Katherine "Kay" Cappetta, 78, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 8, 2018.
Kay was born in Brooklyn, and moved to Staten Island to raise her family.
She worked at Richmond Memorial for 15 years as an administrative assistant for the medical laboratory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick M. Cappetta (Retired NYPD).
She is survived by her children, Frederick J. Cappetta (Retired FDNY) (Kathy), Dianne (Retired NYPD) (Michael Mareno), Michael (Retired NYPD) (Irving), Suzanne (Eddy), John. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Keeley, Freddy, Nola, John Jr., Daniel and James, and her loving sister, Maryann Sillecchia.
Kay lived in Prince's Bay for most of her life before residing in Tottenville.
Her true passion was spending time with her family, especially hosting Sunday and holiday dinners. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and going on cruises with her childhood friend, Judy Lombardo.
After her retirement she continued to volunteer at SIUH (South), where she was known as the candy lady; she welcomed everyone with a warm smile and her famous candy bowl.
Friends will be received Sunday, Aug. 12, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Bedell-Pizzo. Cremation is private.
