STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Justin McCarthy, 76, a longtime Tottenville resident and retired firefighter, died Thursday in Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident for the past two years.

Born on Staten Island, Mr. McCarthy lived the majority of his life in Tottenville.

He worked for the city Fire Department for 20 years in Brooklyn, and spent the last 11 years of his career at Engine 151/Ladder 76 in Tottenville. He retired in 1993.

Mr. McCarthy graduated from Tottenville High School.

An avid fisherman, Mr. McCarthy also enjoyed clamming, taking walks and talking with his neighbors.

He was a diver for the U.S. Navy.

His wife of 51 years, the former Mae McCracken, died in 2013.

He is survived by a sister, Kathleen LaComb.

The funeral will be Monday at noon in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.

Visitation: Friends will be received on Sunday September 22,2013 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM
